Lesson 5 – How WordPress Works


The aim of this lesson is to help you understand some of the very basic structures of WordPress and how it works.  This should help you when you get stuck on something, but not always!

Lets Start

When you first set up your web hosting, a folder was created just for you on a server at Heart Internet.  This folder is your ‘home’ directory or sometimes called ‘root’ directory.  And other than a simple ‘index.html’ file that is part of the initial ‘hosting’ setup, there are no website files and pages to run your website.  So you can either create your own web pages and load them on to your web space, or you can install software to your ‘hosting’ that will do this for you.

By installing WordPress, a series of files are loaded in to your webspace that should now look similar to this:
